Brad and Julie Smith joined the Kimber Academy in the year 2009. They had home schooled their 5 children for 13 years, before entering a private school setting. After searching for a positive LDS social group for their oldest children, they were led to Kimber Academy. The curriculum and philosophy taught in the school, is what their family needed, and feels that other families need to hear it too. The excessive mentoring from Dr. Kimber, about this covenanted land, Founding fathers, the restoring of the constitution and the need to know the prophecies of the middle east, has inspired them to help get the word out to others. Brad and Julie live in Eagle Mountain, Utah.
Julie is currently the Senior teacher( ages 12-18). She started teaching in 2010, when Dr. Kimber stepped down after a return of cancer. Her experiences with teaching range from within the church, and through many years as an educator to her 5 children. She has served as the Primary President, in Young Women Presidency, Relief Society Presidency, and 5 years as youth Sunday School teacher for all ages. She loves the youth and finds strength in knowing who they are, and that they are going to fulfill prophecy and usher in the 2nd coming. Many times she says, “you can feel their nobility” when you are around them. She firmly believes they are Youth of the Noble Birthright, and they have a mission to fulfill.
Emity Shipley, is the Junor B teacher ( ages 9-11)She has her Bachelor’s degree in Family and Human Development from Utah State University. She likes to call it her degree in how to be a mom. She began home schooling my children when her oldest daughter was 9. She became frustrated with public school, and was looking for an alternative, that matched her family’s goals and values. During this search she heard about The Kimber Academy, and really wanted her children to go to school there. Three years later she learned of an opening for a teacher, she applied with the desire to have her children attend. She loves Kimber Academy! She loves that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is part of every subject that we teach. She loves that her children are surrounded by friends and families that have the same values she has. She loves that students get to work at their own pace, and that creating a love of learning is a priority. She loves that parents approve everything we do and everything we teach, because these are THEIR children and THEY know what is best for them.
Her and her husband have two daughters, and two dogs. Our family loves to watch movies and spend time together. We live in Eagle Mountain.
Carli is our Junior A teacher ( ages 5-8) and is thrilled to be a part of the Kimber Academy team! She has been studying with Dr. Kimber for several months and is a member of the Regional Roundtable with The Thomas Jefferson Center. She has a burning love for the Gospel of Jesus Christ, learning, America and it’s Founding Fathers. Part of what has fed this love was an up close and personal experience with this land: In 1997 Carli pulled a handcart almost 1,200 miles in the Sesquicentennial celebration of the original pioneer trek 150 years earlier. Experiencing the Mormon Trail at the age of 18 as an EMT for the Wagon Train helped to make her who she is today. Carli was a professional snowboarder during that time. She still enjoys snowboarding, backpacking, rock and ice climbing, camping, swimming and just about any other adventure! In addition to teaching these sports, she has enjoyed positions in High Schools teaching students how to manage finance and student stores, teacher assistant, as well as group and private Math tutor.
Originally from Southern California, Carli now lives in Lehi, Utah and is serving as the Young Women President in her ward. Right now Carli is on the greatest trek of her life- Motherhood! She absolutely adores her 3 children (2 boys and 1 girl) and husband! This adventure of wife and mother is the one she enjoys the most and works the hardest for.
