Testing/Graduation

TESTING

Kimber Academy’s positive, innovative and diagnostic approach to testing is perfect for families who want to measure the progress of their children. Parents and students can easily identify areas of progress and areas which need improvement. The tests are completely comprehensive testing through all the subject areas.

All testing is handled by the National Testing Center. The testing center will correct the tests once they are submitted to the Center, and diagnostic results will be returned to the family.

There are four levels of testing:

Ages 12 and older: KA Senior Exams
	Ages 9 – 11: NTC-SrE. Exam (Senior Elementary Test)
Ages 7-8 : NTC-JE Exam (Junior Elementary Test)
Ages 5-6: NTC-BEG Exam (Beginner Test)
*Ages are approximations and vary according to learning level.

The students are tested three times during the school year so their progress can more effectively be assessed. When students are tested more often, academic areas needing improvement can receive more attention during the year. Each of the four areas of tests have three different exams, and each test in the series is a little more challenging.

Overall, Kimber Academy has one of the most comprehensive testing programs available.

Graduation Requirements

There was a time when graduating from public school was based on knowledge. Today, graduating from a High School is mainly determined upon a student spending a certain number of hours in a seat. Many colleges and universities have recently expressed their frustrations at how unprepared HS graduates are.

At Kimber Academy, we want parents to understand quality of thought and quantity of information. Therefore, seat time is not even considered in graduating because real learning doesn’t require a “seat” at a school but rather, knowledge in the brain.

There are three requirements to graduate from Kimber Academy; all are based upon knowledge in the subject areas.

Requirement #1

  • Students must pass the KA Senior Diagnostic Test.
    • The students are tested three times a year with each test being a bit harder each time. The test, comprehensively assesses the student’s knowledge in 21 academic areas.
    • Once the student finishes, we send the test to the National Testing Center based in South Carolina for correcting. A comprehensive report is sent back to the school and a meeting is conducted to go over the test results.
    • The student must pass all 21 areas of the test with a score of 60 or higher.
These are the subject areas that will be tested:
		Math
		Science
		History
		Language Arts - Reading
		Language Arts - Writing

                Book of Mormon History
		* The thesis must be written or created totally
                from memory.

College Bound

Some students may be looking at colleges and their specific
entrance requirements. Because Kimber Academy is not a
traditional school the students desiring to go to college
would apply as a "non-traditional" student or under the
homeschool umbrella; each college being a bit different.

These are the items that a graduating student from Kimber
Academy will receive:

	Transcript:
          	Final KA Diagnostics Test
(This shows the student’s knowledge level for
                each subject area)
