Events
The Kimber Academy is enriched with special events, for the students and the community to enjoy. Here are a few of them to name.
Spirit Day
Spirit Day comes 1 or 2 days a month. A day where youth dress up in their Sunday best, and special speakers come and give a message to the youth. Many speakers come from the community or the church to deliver that year’s theme. Here is John Bytheway, after teaching the youth to “Stand out, Don’t fit in”.
Book of Mormon Read-a-thon
Yearly the youth gather together on the last weekend of the year to read the inspiring book. There are many guest speakers who come and read. Youth and families also take turn in reading. This event is open to the community as well. In 2012, will be the start of a New Testament read-a-thon tradition, as we get ready for Easter.
Youth of the Noble Birthright Conference
This is a full, 2-day, summer overnight program which begins on Thursday morning and concludes Friday evening. Youth have the opportunity to learn and grow together while attending classes, and a fireside. Some highlights include a dance, service project, or a variety show. Added benefits are new friendships, strengthened testimonies, and lasting memories.
Getting Ready for General Conference
Twice a year, the youth spend a day learning all about general conference, and preparing for it . They will listen to special speakers who are usually general authorities, which come and share their experiences on that special weekend. Here is Elder Rector speaking to the youth about his experiences as a general authority.
